Patna: The Bihar state cabinet has approved handing over the newly constructed State Sports Academy-cum-International Cricket Stadium in Rajgir to the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This move paves the way for hosting national and international level cricket matches in Bihar, marking a significant milestone in the state’s sports infrastructure development.
Additional Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar Chaudhary said, “The cabinet’s in-principle approval will enable the BCA to maintain and operate the stadium efficiently, bringing top-tier cricket to the historic city of Rajgir.”
Major Investment in Sports Infrastructure: Rs 574 Crore for Punpun Sports Complex
The cabinet also sanctioned Rs 574.34 crore for the acquisition of 100 acres of land in Dumri, Punpun zone, to build a sprawling sports complex in Patna divisional headquarters. This large-scale investment aims to boost sports infrastructure across Bihar, enabling the organization of extensive sports competitions and providing world-class training facilities to the youth.
New Job Opportunities for Outstanding Players Under Direct Appointment Rules
In a player-friendly move, the cabinet approved appointments for outstanding sportspersons under the Direct Appointment Rules of Bihar Outstanding Players, 2023. Annually, five male and five female athletes who are natives of Bihar will be appointed to government jobs based on their qualifications, performance, and achievements in any sporting discipline.
This decision reflects the state government’s commitment to encouraging sports talent by providing financial security and recognition to athletes who excel nationally and internationally.
Bihar’s Sporting Future Looks Promising
With these developments, Bihar is set to emerge as a key player in India’s sporting landscape. The Rajgir stadium is expected to become a hub for cricket enthusiasts, while the new sports complex in Punpun will foster athletic talent across various disciplines.
Chaudhary emphasized, “Bihar has made significant progress in sports. These initiatives will help nurture young athletes, improve training standards, and create opportunities for sports events on a large scale.“
