In an era where wars are no longer confined to battlefields, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called for a new kind of national preparedness—one that goes beyond the military and includes every citizen.

Addressing the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Sainik School Ghorakhal virtually on March 21, 2026, he emphasized that modern warfare now spans economic, cyber, space, and information domains. “Present-day warfare transcends borders,” he said, underlining that national security today includes economic, digital, energy, and food security.

He stressed that while the government, led by Narendra Modi, is strengthening the armed forces with advanced technologies, citizens—especially the youth—must also be prepared with discipline, mental toughness, and clarity of thought.

FROM VUCA TO VISION-DRIVEN YOUTH

Referring to the concept of VUCA—Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous—Rajnath Singh urged students to adopt a new interpretation: Vision, Understanding, Courage, and Adaptability. He said these qualities are essential for navigating modern challenges and contributing to national security.

Highlighting key government initiatives, he noted that 100 new Sainik Schools are being established under the Public-Private Partnership model to expand access to military-style education. Additionally, the intake capacity of the National Cadet Corps has been increased from 17 lakh to 20 lakh cadets.

He also described the inclusion of girls in Sainik Schools as a “historic and revolutionary” step, strengthening the nation’s ‘Nari Shakti’ and paving the way for greater female participation in defence and leadership roles.

Congratulating the institution on completing 60 years, he praised its legacy of excellence, noting that it has produced over 800 cadets for the National Defence Academy and more than 2,000 officers for the Armed Forces.

He expressed confidence that the school will continue to shape disciplined leaders committed to nation-building.
