New Delhi: Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basant Rath (2000 batch, J&K Cadre) has announced free coaching for IAS and IPS aspirants from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and the northeastern states. His upcoming coaching institute, set up in Noida, is expected to begin operations next month.
Inspired During Early Police Service
Speaking about the initiative, Rath recalled his police training days in Poonch district when P. L. Gupta served as IGP, Jammu. He credited Gupta for inspiring him to treat people with dignity and empower them as a community.
“Right from my training days, I knew I must do something for the students of J&K and Ladakh. My mentor inspired me to reach out to people as people, not as numbers in government files,” Rath said.
Launch of Rank 62 Academy
Rath revealed that his coaching centre will be called Rank 62 Academy, named after his All India Rank in the 2000 UPSC Civil Services Examination.
“If any reasonably hardworking student gives me 5,000 hours and four serious attempts, I’ll get them a rank higher than what I got. If they don’t make it to the final list in four attempts, I’ll return the entire fee with 6% compound interest,” he asserted.
Education as a Tool for Empowerment
Highlighting his belief in education, Rath described it as the most powerful tool to empower the voiceless and faceless masses. He said the institute is an extension of his long-standing commitment to support underprivileged aspirants, recalling how he once distributed books to civil services candidates from poor families during his tenure in J&K.
