The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently approved the appointment of Mr. Partha Pratim Sengupta as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bandhan Bank for a period of three years. The RBI has granted its prior approval for this position as Mr. Sengupta replaces the founder Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh. Mr. Ghosh stepped down on July 9th, 2024.
Mr. Partha Pratim Sengupta has nearly 40 years of experience in banking, having held senior positions at both the State Bank of India (SBI) and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). Most recently, he served as the Managing Director and CEO of IOB from 2020 to 2022.
Before joining IOB, Sengupta dedicated much of his career to SBI, where he held a variety of leadership roles in retail and corporate banking. As Deputy Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer, he led the Corporate Centre Credit Committee and was instrumental in making investment and risk management decisions. He also managed regional operations, including his role as Chief General Manager of the Kolkata Circle, which encompassed West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
