New Delhi: State-run REC Limited has taken a strategic step to strengthen power infrastructure in northern India by incorporating a new wholly owned subsidiary, Robertsganj Power Transmission Limited, through its arm REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL). The new entity will be instrumental in implementing a vital inter-state power transmission project in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh.
Subsidiary Incorporated to Support National Transmission Objectives
Robertsganj Power Transmission Limited was officially incorporated on May 28, 2025, as a wholly owned subsidiary of RECPDCL, which itself is a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited. Hence, under Section 2(87) of the Companies Act, 2013, the new entity also qualifies as a subsidiary of REC Limited.

The newly formed company has an authorized and paid-up capital of ₹5 lakh, signaling its role as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for managing a dedicated project.
Project Background: Transmission from Pumped Storage Projects
The incorporation follows a Gazette Notification by the Ministry of Power dated March 19, 2025, which allocated the transmission system for evacuation of power from pumped storage projects in Sonbhadra to RECPDCL. The subsidiary will facilitate the establishment of this inter-state transmission system.
RECPDCL has been appointed as the Bid Process Coordinator (BPC) for the project, under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) guidelines, to oversee the selection of a suitable private bidder for the project’s implementation.
Future Transfer Post-Bidding Process
Once the bidding process concludes and a successful bidder is selected, Robertsganj Power Transmission Limited will be transferred to the selected entity, along with all associated assets and liabilities. This is a standard model used by RECPDCL to ensure transparent execution of public-private transmission projects.
Boosting Power Infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh
The Sonbhadra district is becoming a focal point for pumped storage and renewable energy integration. This transmission project is a crucial step toward ensuring seamless power evacuation from upcoming energy projects, enhancing grid reliability, and supporting India’s energy transition goals.
Efficient Transmission Devp
The creation of Robertsganj Power Transmission Limited reinforces REC Limited’s strategic role in India’s power sector reforms and infrastructure development. Through RECPDCL, the PSU continues to enable efficient transmission development via the public-private partnership model.
