Mr. Sudhakar Burgi, a retired IAS officer and currently a member of the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC), has been appointed to act as the Chairman of the OSSC, Bhubaneswar. The appointment follows the resignation of Mr. Abhay, former Director General of Police (DGP) and OSSC Chairman, whose resignation was accepted by the Odisha Government on May 19, 2025.
According to an official notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department, the government stated, “After careful consideration of the representation dated 19.05.2025 of Mr. Abhay, Government has been pleased to accept the resignation of Mr. Abhay, Chairman, Odisha Staff Selection Commission with immediate effect.”
The notification further added, “Mr. Sudhakar Burgi IAS (Retd), Member, Odisha Staff Selection Commission, is allowed to act as the Chairman, Odisha Staff Selection Commission, Bhubaneswar in addition to his own duties until further orders.”
Mr. Sudhakar Burgi was earlier selected as an OSSC member for a five-year term or until the age of 65, whichever is earlier. His tenure is governed by the OSSC (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of the Chairman and Members) Rules, 1995, which also regulate salary and service conditions.
In addition to Mr. Burgi’s appointment, Mr. Udaya Narayan Das (2010-batch IAS officer), Director, Census Operations, and Ms. Shruti Das, former Professor of English at Berhampur University, have also been appointed as members of the OSSC.
While the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) handles recruitment for Group A and select Group B civil services, the OSSC is the primary recruitment body for Group B and Group C non-technical posts in various state government departments and offices.
