Following the recent launch of an “Open House” initiative by Union Cabinet Secretary Dr. T. V. Somanathan (IAS: 1987: TN), Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra (IAS: 1990: RJ) has introduced a similar platform for direct engagement with both current and former officials of the Department of Revenue, as well as the CBDT, CBIC, and associated offices and field units.
This initiative is designed to supplement the existing formal arrangement, where meetings with the Revenue Secretary are scheduled by appointment. The “Open House” system enables officials—both in service and retired—to meet with the Secretary on working days from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. to discuss service-related concerns and grievances, excluding matters of transfer and postings, within this designated time.
Dr. Somanathan, meanwhile, holds his “Open House” sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, except on public holidays. By contrast, Revenue Secretary Malhotra’s open platform allows daily engagement during the stated morning window without the need for prior scheduling.
