Visakhapatnam: In a historic appointment, 2011 batch IAS officer Roshni Aparanji Korati has assumed charge as the Deputy Chairperson of Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Monday. She is the first woman IAS officer from the 2011 batch to hold this position, marking a significant milestone for the organization and the region.

IAS Korati’s appointment carries special significance for Visakhapatnam. Her father served as a school headmaster at Visakhapatnam Port High School, and now she has taken charge in a leadership role within the same organization, continuing the family’s legacy of public service in the city. Born on April 3, 1984, she completed her education in Visakhapatnam, reflecting a deep-rooted connection with the region.
Academic and Professional Excellence
Ms Korati is a gold medallist in her master’s degree in Mass Communication from Andhra University. She has extensive administrative experience at the district, state, and central levels. Her earlier roles include:
- Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jorhat
- Collector and District Magistrate, Jorhat and Dhemaji, Assam, where she led major rural development and welfare initiatives
- Secretary, Government of Assam, including Elementary Education and Mission Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)
- Leadership roles in Agriculture Secretary and Project Director, ARIAS Society
Central Assignments and Contributions
Before joining VPA, Korati served on Central Deputation as Joint Development Commissioner, Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ). She has been recognized for her exemplary work in public administration and governance, receiving the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2018, among other honors.
