BRS general secretary and former civil servant RS Praveen Kumar on Saturday expressed concern over what he termed as the “silence” of the IAS and IPS Officers’ Associations regarding the alleged abusive conduct of TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy towards police personnel during municipal elections in Sangareddy.
Referring to the incident in the 34th ward of Sangareddy, Praveen Kumar alleged that Jagga Reddy abused and threatened police officers, including CCS CI Shivakumar Yadav, DSP Sathaiah Goud and home guards, while they were on duty. He claimed that the Congress leader obstructed officials and attempted to storm into a building during the poll process.
Taking to X, Praveen Kumar said that 72 hours had passed since the incident and videos circulating publicly served as evidence. However, no arrests had been made so far. He questioned whether cases would have been registered if the State Election Commission had not issued directions in the matter.
QUESTIONS DOUBLE STANDARDS AND OFFICIAL SILENCE
The BRS leader criticised what he described as a “double standard,” stating that IAS and IPS Associations had previously reacted strongly to remarks made by BRS leaders but were now silent despite a senior Congress leader allegedly insulting police officers on duty.
He also questioned why the Telangana Police Officers Association and employee unions, including the TNGO, had not condemned the incident. Praveen Kumar further asked whether fear or political pressure was preventing them from speaking out.
Stating that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy or the Home Minister should have at least spoken to the affected officers, he termed the episode a serious blow to police morale.
He warned that failure to act could embolden individuals to threaten or abuse police personnel in future, calling the issue a matter of public concern rather than party politics.
