RVNL Secures ₹145.34 Crore Southern Railway Contract for Traction Sub-Stations Project

New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Government of India PSU under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from Southern Railway for a traction power infrastructure project valued at ₹145.34 crore. The project aims to strengthen Southern Railway’s traction and power quality systems, supporting its ambitious Mission 3000 MT loading target.

Scope of Work: Design to Commissioning of Key Traction Systems

As per RVNL’s regulatory filing, the project includes –

  • Design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of Scott-connected traction sub-stations
  • Installation of power quality compensating equipment
  • Setup of associated switching posts for a 2×25 kV AT feeding system
  • SCADA integration for real-time monitoring and control
  • Installation of Automatic Fault Locator (AFL) systems

The work will be executed along the Jolarpettai Junction–Salem Junction (JTJ–SA) section in the Salem Division, a key freight and passenger corridor.

Execution Timeline and Contract Value

The total contract value stands at ₹145,34,66,865.48, inclusive of all applicable taxes. RVNL must complete the project within 540 days from the date of issue.

The company clarified that the LOA has been awarded under standard contract conditions and falls within the normal course of business. RVNL also confirmed that no promoter or related-party interests are associated with this order.

Strategic Importance for Southern Railway

The traction infrastructure upgrade will enhance power reliability and efficiency across the JTJ–SA stretch. The implementation of Scott-connected sub-stations and advanced automation systems is expected to improve operational stability, reduce downtime, and support higher freight movement in alignment with Mission 3000 MT.
