SAIL Reappoints 3 Independent Directors to Its Board – Know More About Them

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has announced the reappointment of Dr Gopal Singh Bhati, Dr Anju Bajpai, and Manjeet Kumar Razdan as Independent Directors on its Board, effective from April 21, 2025, for a period of one year, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, subject to their membership in the Institute of Corporate Affairs.

Dr Gopal Singh Bhati

Dr Bhati, a Radiologist, currently serves at the Government Medical College, Kota. He completed his MBBS from SPMC Bikaner, Rajasthan University, in 1990, and a Diploma in Medical Radio Diagnosis (DMRD) from Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, Loni, Maharashtra, in 2007. Dr. Bhati has held significant positions, including being the Divisional President of the National Medicos Organisation (2000-2005) and the State Secretary (Rajasthan) of the Indian Medical Association (2010-2015). He also served in the Medical & Health Department of the Rajasthan State Government from 1993 to 2008.

From 2012 to 2021 (July), Dr. Bhati was the State President of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Medical Cell. He also served as an Independent Director on the Board of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for three years, from November 2021. During his tenure at SAIL, he chaired the Board Sub-Committee on Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) and was a member of several key committees, including the Project Committee, Strategic Issues & Joint Ventures Committee, Nomination & Remuneration Committee (NRC), and the CSR Committee.

Manjeet Kumar Razdan

Mr Razdan, aged 58, is from Jammu & Kashmir. He holds degrees in Science and Law and has been a practising Advocate for over 25 years. He has a diverse range of experience in the legal field and served on the Board of Directors of the India State Trading Corporation of India Limited as an Independent Director from December 2, 2021, to November 4, 2024. Shri Razdan has also been the Standing Counsel for the National Insurance Company in Jammu & Kashmir.

Dr Anju Bajpai

Dr Bajpai, aged 55, hails from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. She holds a degree in Science and Law, along with a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Law from Barkatullah University, Bhopal. Dr. Bajpai has over 20 years of teaching experience and 8 years of judicial experience. She is currently a Professor in the School of Law and Legal Studies at SAGE University, Bhopal. She has also served as the former Principal of People’s Institute of Legal Studies at People’s University, Bhopal, and the former Dean and Professor of the Law Department at Mansarovar Global University, Bhopal.

Additionally, Dr Bajpai has held various key positions, including Research Fellow and Professor on Deputation at the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal. She has worked as a practising advocate in Consumer Courts and the State Administrative Tribunal in Bhopal, and as an honorary Advisor to the Asian Institute of Human Rights Education, Bhopal.

Dr Bajpai’s notable literary contributions include the preparation of a Compendium on Environmental Laws (in two volumes) in collaboration with the Environmental Planning and Coordination Organisation (EPCO), Bhopal, and a Compendium on Child Rights for UNICEF. She has also authored reports based on fieldwork, focusing on issues such as street children, child sex workers, children working in factories, and children in juvenile homes.

Dr Bajpai is a Trustee of the Gandhi Bhawan Nyas in Bhopal and serves as the Managing Editor of the bilingual magazine ‘School Shiksha’. She has been an Independent Director on the Board of India Tourism Development Corporation from February 2022 to January 2025.
