New Delhi: Sanjay Kumar Singh has taken on the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited effective September 1, 2025. Currently serving as Director (Projects) at NHPC, Singh will hold this position for one month or until a full-time CMD is appointed, whichever occurs earlier, as per the company’s regulatory filing with stock exchanges.
Experienced Leader with Extensive Power Sector Background
Singh holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and brings over 33 years of extensive experience in the power and infrastructure sector, specializing in the execution of major projects in India and Bhutan. Before joining NHPC Limited in July 2024, he served as Chief General Manager at SJVN Ltd.

Key Contributions at NHPC
During his tenure as Director (Projects) at NHPC, Singh successfully oversaw the commissioning of the prestigious 800 MW Pārbati-II Hydroelectric Project (HEP), known for its challenging 31.5 km Head Race Tunnel (HRT). He also played a vital role in progressing the Subansiri Lower HEP (2000 MW), one of India’s largest ongoing hydroelectric projects, which is nearing commissioning. Significant advancements have been made under his supervision in several other projects within NHPC and its joint ventures and subsidiaries.
Additional Roles and Responsibilities
Singh previously held the additional charge of Director (Technical) at NHPC from August 8, 2024, to April 16, 2025. He currently chairs the boards of NHPC Renewable Energy Limited and Jalpower Corporation Limited, both wholly-owned subsidiaries of NHPC. Additionally, he serves as a Nominee Director on the boards of Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited and Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited, joint ventures of NHPC with JKSPDCL.

With rich experience across project construction, survey and investigation, pre-construction planning, detailed project report preparation, contract management, project monitoring, and liaisoning with government bodies such as the Central Water Commission (CWC), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), and Pollution Control Boards, Singh is well-equipped to lead NHPC through this transitional period.
