The government has posted Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) officer Satish Kumar as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board. He will replace incumbent Jaya Varma Sinha (IRTS:1988), who is set to retire on August 31.
He will be the first individual from the Scheduled Castes to hold this position in the Railway Board’s history
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Satish Kumar, Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), Member (Traction & Rolling Stock), Railway Board to the post of Chairman & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Railway Board for a period with effect from the date of assumption of charge on or after 01.09.2024, till the date of his superannuation and his re-employment on contract basis with effect from 01.01.2025 till 31.08.2025 on usual terms and conditions, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
It further added that his appointment is in the apex pay scale (pay level 17 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission)
Satish Kumar, a 1986-batch IRSME officer, has made significant contributions to railways throughout his career.
