New Delhi: In a major move to bolster the strength of the judiciary across multiple states, the Supreme Court Collegium has approved several appointments and reappointments in four High Courts – Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Calcutta, and Karnataka. The decisions were made during the Collegium’s meeting held on July 28, 2025.
Four Judges Made Permanent in Andhra Pradesh High Court
The Collegium has recommended the elevation of four Additional Judges in the Andhra Pradesh High Court as Permanent Judges. Those approved are:
- Justice Harinath Nunepally
- Justice Kiranmayee Mandava @ Kiranmayee Kanaparthy
- Justice Sumathi Jagadam
- Justice Nyapathy Vijay
This move is aimed at providing stability and continuity in the judicial system of the state, which has been grappling with a heavy caseload.
Chhattisgarh High Court to Get One Permanent Judge
In the Chhattisgarh High Court, the Collegium has approved the elevation of Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, who is currently serving as an Additional Judge, to the position of Permanent Judge.
Calcutta High Court: 2 Judges Elevated, 7 Reappointed
The Collegium has also cleared Justice Partha Sarathi Sen and Justice Apurba Sinha Ray, both serving as Additional Judges in the Calcutta High Court, for elevation as Permanent Judges.
Additionally, seven Additional Judges have been recommended for reappointment for a fresh one-year term:
- Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury
- Justice Prasenjit Biswas
- Justice Uday Kumar
- Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta
- Justice Supratim Bhattacharya
- Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee
- Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi
These reappointments are intended to maintain judicial efficiency and ensure continuity in the bench.
Karnataka High Court: One Judge Elevated
In Karnataka, Justice Gurusiddaiah Basavaraja, currently serving as an Additional Judge, has been approved for elevation as a Permanent Judge, contributing to the court’s efforts to clear pending cases and strengthen adjudication capacity.
