In a move aimed at promoting judicial diversity and strengthening the administration of justice, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of several High Court judges across India.
The recommendations were finalized during meetings held on April 15 and April 19, 2025, under the leadership of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna.
According to the Collegium’s resolution, the following judicial transfers have been proposed:
- Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad – From Karnataka High Court to Odisha High Court
- Justice Dr. Kumbhajadala Manmadha Rao – From Andhra Pradesh High Court to Karnataka High Court
- Justice Kasoju Surendhar – From Telangana High Court to Madras High Court
- Justice Perugu Sree Sudha – From Telangana High Court to Karnataka High Court
- Justice Neranahalli Sreenivasan Sanjay Gowda – From Karnataka High Court to Gujarat High Court
- Justice Krishnan Natarajan – From Karnataka High Court to Kerala High Court
- Justice Hemanth Chandangoudar – From Karnataka High Court to Madras High Court
In its official statement, the Collegium noted that the transfers were recommended “with a view to infuse inclusivity and diversity at the level of High Courts and to strengthen the quality of administration of justice.”
The transfer of High Court judges – including Chief Justices – is initiated by the Chief Justice of India and approved by the President of India. The Collegium, comprising the CJI and the four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, plays a pivotal role in reviewing and recommending such decisions.
These proposed changes are part of ongoing efforts to ensure balanced representation and cross-jurisdictional experience within India’s higher judiciary.
