New Delhi: Dr. Mayank Sharma, a 1989-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), assumed the prestigious office of Financial Advisor (Defence Services) on August 1, 2025. With an illustrious government career spanning over three decades, Dr. Sharma brings a wealth of expertise in defence finance, administration, and international representation to the Ministry of Defence.
A Stalwart of the Defence Accounts Ecosystem
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Sharma served as the Controller General of Defence Accounts, a top-tier position overseeing the financial administration of the armed forces. His deep knowledge of defence financial procedures and long-standing service in key roles within the Defence Accounts Department has made him one of the most trusted financial minds in the government’s strategic corridors.
Extensive Tenure in the Cabinet Secretariat
Dr. Sharma’s administrative journey also includes significant stints in the Cabinet Secretariat, where he held the posts of Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Joint Secretary. These roles placed him at the helm of inter-ministerial coordination and high-level decision-making, shaping national policies across departments.
Representing India on the Global Stage
An accomplished diplomat, Dr. Sharma has represented India as the Alternate Permanent Representative at several prominent international forums, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and the UN Commission on International Trade Law. His global engagements also include representing India at the International Anti-Corruption Academy and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, further enriching his governance credentials with multilateral exposure.
A Blend of Urban Governance and Healthcare Administration
In addition to his core financial roles, Dr. Sharma also served as Additional Commissioner in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, gaining valuable insights into urban governance. He further contributed to the health sector as Deputy Director (Administration) and Senior Financial Advisor at AIIMS, New Delhi—India’s premier medical institution—managing complex financial frameworks within a high-stakes healthcare environment.
