New Delhi/Lucknow: The Government of India has approved the repatriation of Amit Kumar Ghosh, a 1994 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, from his central deputation to his parent Uttar Pradesh cadre. Ghosh, who was serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, has now been relieved of his central responsibilities.
The decision comes after the completion of his central deputation tenure, and he is expected to take up a significant role in the Uttar Pradesh government, where his deep administrative experience is likely to be put to use.
A Veteran Administrator
Amit Kumar Ghosh has held several prominent positions during his decades-long career. Notably, he served as the District Magistrate of Lucknow during the Mayawati-led government, a role that gave him crucial insights into urban governance and law-and-order management.
He has also been the Managing Director of the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC), where his leadership was both impactful and, at times, surrounded by administrative controversies. Despite this, Ghosh has been widely acknowledged for his efficiency and strong grasp of governance challenges, especially in complex and high-pressure environments.
Expertise in Social Justice and State Development
His recent stint at the Centre, in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has further enhanced his policy-level experience, particularly in areas concerning welfare, inclusion, and rights-based development. According to government sources, his return to Uttar Pradesh is aimed at leveraging this experience to strengthen state-level program implementation and administrative efficiency in key departments.
Ghosh’s repatriation is expected to bolster the state machinery, especially in sectors such as social justice, empowerment, industrial development, and urban administration, where his insights could prove valuable.
The state government is likely to assign him a strategic portfolio, considering both his seniority and his proven track record in policy execution and governance innovation.
