Shimla: SJVN Limited, a leading public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has been conferred the Second Prize in the prestigious Swachhta Pakhwada Awards 2025. The award was presented by Mr. Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, to Mr. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of SJVN, at a ceremony held in New Delhi.
Recognition for Outstanding Swachhta Performance
CMD Mr. Bhupender Gupta stated that the award recognizes SJVN’s impactful and structured initiatives undertaken during the nationwide Swachhta Pakhwada 2025 observance, held annually from 16th to 31st May.
He emphasized that the company’s efforts during this period led to meaningful change on the ground, thanks to both employee participation and active community engagement across various project locations.
What is Swachhta Pakhwada?
Organized under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Swachhta Pakhwada is a two-week nationwide campaign where Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) in the power sector are evaluated based on their sanitation and cleanliness drives, awareness generation, and sustainable practices.
In 2025, the top three positions were awarded to:
- PGCIL – First Prize
- SJVN – Second Prize
- NHPC – Third Prize
- Wide-Ranging Activities by SJVN
During the fortnight, SJVN rolled out a series of initiatives across its project sites and offices, which included:
- Extensive cleanliness drives in public areas and offices
- Tree plantation drives to promote environmental sustainability
- Awareness campaigns on menstrual hygiene and personal cleanliness
- Programs discouraging single-use plastic
- Sessions on hygiene, waste segregation, and management
River cleaning activities
Expert talks, rallies, street plays (Nukkad Nataks), school competitions, and other creative outreach events
These initiatives were designed not just as symbolic efforts, but to leave a lasting impact on the communities and support national sustainability goals.
A Legacy of Clean Excellence
SJVN’s performance in the Swachhta Pakhwada Awards has been consistently commendable. Since the inception of the awards:
- The company has won four First Prizes, including three consecutive years
- It has also secured two Second Prizes, including the current one in 2025
- This track record reflects the organization’s commitment to sustainability, hygiene, and responsible corporate practices.
