New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) proposal to develop a Greenfield Airport at Kota-Bundi, Rajasthan. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹1,507 crore, is set to boost connectivity for one of India’s leading education and industrial hubs.
Modern Infrastructure for Growing Regional Demand
The Government of Rajasthan has handed over 440.06 hectares of land to AAI for the airport’s construction. Designed to handle A-321 type aircraft, the facility will feature a 20,000 sqm terminal building capable of serving 1,000 peak-hour passengers, with an annual capacity of 2 million passengers.
The project also includes a 3,200m x 45m runway, an apron with seven parking bays, two link taxiways, an ATC-cum-Technical Block, fire station, car parking, and allied infrastructure.
Addressing Kota’s Rising Traffic Needs
Known as Rajasthan’s industrial capital and India’s educational coaching hub, Kota has witnessed increasing passenger and cargo demands. The Greenfield Airport will meet this surge while providing a modern gateway for the region.
Currently, Kota’s existing airport cannot support commercial operations due to limited runway length, small terminal size, and urban encroachment. The new facility ensures seamless connectivity that the old airport cannot provide.
