New Delhi: In a major administrative overhaul aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and security, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) has announced that several key functions of the Supreme Court of India, ranging from case management to parking and security systems, are being shifted to digital platforms. The move marks a significant step towards comprehensive digitization of the apex court’s administrative framework.
Online Case Management System to Track Stalled Cases
One of the most significant initiatives unveiled is a new online case management platform designed to track cases that remain stalled in trial courts or High Courts due to pending hearings or orders before the Supreme Court.
Under this system, end-to-end data of cases moving from trial courts to High Courts and finally to the Supreme Court will be available on a single integrated digital platform. This will enable authorities to identify exactly where a case is stuck and why, helping reduce procedural delays and improve judicial efficiency.
The Chief Justice stated that the platform would help ensure that cases do not remain unnecessarily pending in lower courts due to bottlenecks at the Supreme Court level.
Digital Connectivity With High Courts Across the Country
To make the case-tracking mechanism effective, the Supreme Court is being digitally connected with all High Courts. This integration will allow real-time monitoring of cases that are awaiting decisions or hearings at the apex court and are, as a result, holding up proceedings in subordinate courts.
The CJI emphasized that this is a purely administrative reform, aimed at benefitting lawyers, litigants, and the judicial system as a whole, while also accelerating the overall pace of justice delivery.
New IT Tools for Faster and Transparent Court Functioning
Addressing members of the Bar on January 29, 2026, the Chief Justice of India said that new IT technologies are being deployed extensively for case management and administrative functions. These digital tools are expected to streamline workflows, enhance accountability, and reduce manual intervention in court processes.
Unified Online Payment System Introduced
As part of the digitization drive, the Supreme Court is also rolling out a new online payment system. This single platform will allow lawyers and litigants to make payments for various administrative services, including:
- Advocate-on-Record (AOR) examination fees
- Crèche facility charges
- Other administrative fees
The move is expected to make financial transactions more convenient, transparent, and time-efficient for court users.
Online Parking Permit Applications and Complaint System
In another major reform, the Supreme Court has digitized its parking management system. Applications for parking permits within the Supreme Court premises can now be submitted online. Applicants will also be able to:
- Track the status of their parking permit applications online
- File complaints digitally regarding violations of parking rules
This initiative aims to bring greater order and accountability to parking operations within the court complex.
Enhanced Security Measures at Supreme Court Premises
The Chief Justice also announced the implementation of a new security entry system at the Supreme Court. Emphasizing that security is paramount, the CJI said the upgraded entry and parking systems are being introduced to ensure the safety of judges, lawyers, court staff, and ordinary citizens.
The revamped security framework is expected to improve crowd management, regulate access, and enhance overall safety within the court premises.
Administrative Reform to Benefit Lawyers and Litigants
Summing up the reforms, the CJI noted that these steps are part of a broader administrative effort to modernize the Supreme Court’s functioning. The digitization of case management, payments, parking, and security is expected to reduce delays, improve transparency, and make the court more accessible and efficient for all stakeholders.
