The Supreme Court has granted bail to Ms. Shewali Devi Sharma, a 1992-batch IAS officer, who previously served as the Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Ms. Sharma was accused in a massive financial scam worth Rs. 105 crore. She was arrested by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell in connection with the case.
Although her bail plea was earlier rejected by the Gauhati High Court, Ms. Sharma has now successfully secured bail after a prolonged legal battle in the Supreme Court.
The investigation into the Rs. 105 crore scam, which allegedly occurred during her tenure at SCERT, has been ongoing. Her arrest had attracted significant attention in Assam, and the Supreme Court’s ruling has sparked further discussions regarding the investigation and the case’s next steps.
