CHENNAI: The Government of Tamil Nadu on Saturday ordered a significant reshuffle of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, announcing transfers and fresh appointments across key positions in the state police hierarchy.
The administrative changes, which come ahead of the upcoming State Assembly elections, were ordered with immediate effect by Additional Chief Secretary (Home – SC) Dheeraj Kumar.
Davidson Devasirvatham Appointed DVAC Director
Director General of Police (DGP) S Davidson Devasirvatham has been appointed as Director General of Police/Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Chennai. He will, however, continue to hold full additional charge as Director General of Police, Armed Police, Chennai.
His appointment to the sensitive DVAC post comes days after the Madras High Court directed the state DVAC to register a case in connection with an alleged multi-crore scam in the Municipal Administration Department. The direction was based on information shared by the Enforcement Directorate.
The Municipal Administration Department is currently headed by Minister KN Nehru.
The DVAC chief’s post had been lying vacant following the retirement of Abhay Kumar Singh on January 31 this year.

IPS officer H M Jayaram was appointed as Additional Director General of Police/Director of Civil Defence and Additional Commandant General, Home Guards, Chennai.
Jayaram had earlier been placed under suspension in connection with a kidnapping case. After the state government revoked his suspension last month, he had been on compulsory wait at the DGP’s office. His new posting marks his return to an active leadership role within the department.

Administrative Reorganisation Ahead of Polls
The reshuffle of IPS officers comes at a politically significant time, ahead of the State Assembly elections. Such large-scale administrative reassignments are often aimed at ensuring effective law enforcement management, operational preparedness, and institutional neutrality during the election period.
With immediate effect, the transfers signal a strategic restructuring within the Tamil Nadu police establishment, particularly at senior levels overseeing vigilance, law and order, modernisation, and district policing.
