New Delhi: The Central Government has empanelled Tarun Kumar Pithode, a 2009-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, for holding the post of Joint Secretary or equivalent at the Centre.

Currently on Central deputation, Pithode has been serving as Director in the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) since September 2024. His empanelment marks a significant milestone in a distinguished career dedicated to public service and innovation in administration.

ACC Clears Names from 2009 Batch

This empanelment follows earlier decisions by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which had cleared the names of 16 IAS officers from the 2009 batch for Joint Secretary-level posts on February 10, 2025. An additional four officers were empanelled on March 24, 2025, with Pithode’s inclusion bringing further recognition to the batch’s service record.

Academic and Professional Background

Born on August 28, 1979, Pithode holds Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Communication Engineering and Electronics & Communication from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), Bhopal. Fluent in both English and Hindi, he is known for his sharp administrative acumen and people-first governance approach.

Career Highlights

During his career, IAS Pithode has served as Collector in multiple districts, where he focused on improving education, infrastructure, and citizen-centric services. His postings have provided him with wide-ranging experience in implementing innovative public welfare initiatives and responsive governance.

In his own words – “It has been a fulfilling experience. I came with the thought of doing something meaningful, and I got the opportunity to do it. I feel proud that I can work for my country.”

Message to Aspirants

Sharing advice for future civil service aspirants, Pithode emphasized the importance of strategic planning, consistent learning, and personality development-

“While preparing for exams, always have a proper plan – choose your subjects and books carefully, and practice answer and essay writing. Also, develop your personality in line with the field you aspire to join.”

A Promising Future

With his empanelment, Tarun Pithode is now eligible for a Joint Secretary-level post, positioning him for key policymaking roles in the Central Government. His appointment is seen as a testament to merit, experience, and commitment to public service.
