In a bid to safeguard innocent farmers from falling victim to counterfeit seed syndicates, Kothagudem SP B Rohith Raju, an IPS officer of 2018 batch, announced today the establishment of a specialized surveillance system in collaboration with agricultural officials across the district. This proactive measure aims to curb the nefarious activities of miscreants who sell fake seeds while also addressing concerns about the recycling of expired seeds by certain companies.
Under the directives of the state government and the Honorable DGP to ensure the distribution of high-quality seeds to farmers and crack down on suppliers of fake and adulterated seeds, officials throughout the district have intensified efforts to gather intelligence and enforce stringent measures. With the impending monsoon cultivation season, farmers are being equipped with the necessary awareness to discern genuine seeds from counterfeit ones.
SP Rohit Raju emphasized the importance of cracking down on fake seed suppliers and outlined various measures being implemented, including strict monitoring of seed shops, identification of offenders, and prompt legal action. Orders have been issued to register cases and take strict action against unlicensed seed shops, those failing to maintain proper standards, and those involved in the sale of fake seeds.
To ensure farmers have access to quality seeds, awareness programs are being conducted in each police station area, promoting the use of seeds from government-licensed organizations. Additionally, stringent measures are being enforced at border areas to prevent the influx of fake seeds, including the establishment of check posts and mobile surveillance units to intercept illegal transportation.
The district police are committed to ensuring the agricultural community receives genuine seeds, safeguarding their livelihoods, and upholding the integrity of the agricultural sector.
