New Delhi: THDC India Limited achieved a major milestone in its 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (KSTPP) project with the successful arrival of its first coal-laden rake from the company’s captive Amelia Coal Mine. The initiative marks a significant step toward ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply and operational reliability for the power project.
Strengthening Fuel Security and Energy Infrastructure
Mr. Sipan Kumar Garg, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, said the milestone strengthens fuel security for KSTPP and establishes a consistent coal supply system. The coal rake, part of the plant’s integrated fuel linkage strategy, was dispatched from the Amelia Coal Mine and received at KSTPP, ensuring a sustainable and reliable transportation mechanism.

Promoting Operational Self-Reliance and Efficiency
Mr. Kumar Sharad, Executive Director (Projects), highlighted that the inaugural coal run reflects KSTPP’s focus on operational self-reliance and efficient resource management. Dedicated railway wagons and coal from THDC’s own mine will enhance supply assurance, optimize costs, and support stable power generation, contributing to India’s broader energy security objectives.
Collaborative Execution with Indian Railways
The successful coal dispatch was executed in close coordination with Indian Railways, adhering to safety, quality, and logistical protocols. Senior officials, including Mr. BK Sahoo, Mr. R.M. Dubey, Mr. Sandeep Bhatnagar, and Mr. Rakesh Ratan Pathak, along with representatives from RITES and Steag, participated in the event, ensuring smooth operations.

The first coal rake from Amelia Coal Mine underscores KSTPP’s readiness to meet rising power demand with a dependable fuel supply chain. The achievement enhances operational resilience, cost efficiency, and contributes to strengthening India’s energy independence.
