Phek, Nagaland: In a landmark initiative aimed at sustainable community development, the “Treasures of Phek Society” (ToPS) was officially launched by Dr. Pritpal Kaur, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek, at the Tourist Lodge in Phek Village. The innovative program seeks to address unemployment, promote environmental conservation, empower women, and preserve traditional knowledge.

Vision and Objectives

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Kaur highlighted the role of teamwork and innovation in building a peaceful and progressive society. She emphasized that ToPS is designed not only to generate livelihoods but also to safeguard local culture and resources.

Members of the society have undergone training provided by reputed organizations such as KVK, NTTC, and ICAR, ensuring that the products meet quality and market standards.

ToPS Product Line: Showcasing Local Talent

The ToPS initiative features a wide array of locally sourced products, including:

  • Crafts made from banana fiber, straw, and wood
  • Processed agricultural produce such as chips, juices, and candies
  • Herbal products including turmeric and ginger
  • Value-added items such as millets and sticky rice

This product line reflects Phek’s agricultural strengths while providing market access to local farmers and artisans.

Community Support and Participation

The launch event witnessed strong support from local leaders and community organizations:

  • Er. Khuvoyi Vese (NBM) urged farmers to pursue long-term sustainable goals
  • EAC Phek, Mrs. Imnasenla, emphasized discipline in skill enhancement
  • CMA President Mrs. Zhonelu called for the ToPS model to be replicated across all villages in the district

The event commenced with an invocation by Rev. Vezopa Tetseo and a welcome address by VDB Secretary Smti Huvekholu, and was attended by farmers, elders, CMA, PAPO, CYF, SHGs, and other community organizations.
