New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched its first structured Bug Bounty Programme to further enhance the security of the Aadhaar system, the cornerstone of India’s digital identity ecosystem. This initiative invites cybersecurity experts to identify vulnerabilities in UIDAI’s key digital platforms, reinforcing the authority’s commitment to protecting citizen data.
20 Experts Selected for the Initiative
A panel of 20 experienced security researchers and ethical hackers has been selected to participate in the programme. These experts will examine UIDAI digital assets, including:
- UIDAI official website
- myAadhaar portal
- Secure QR Code application
The researchers will scrutinize these platforms for potential security gaps classified under Critical, High, Medium, and Low-risk categories, ensuring that any weaknesses are responsibly reported. Depending on the severity of the vulnerabilities discovered, participants will receive appropriate rewards.
Collaboration with Cybersecurity Partner
UIDAI is implementing the programme in partnership with M/s ComOlho IT Private Limited, a specialized cybersecurity solution provider. This collaboration ensures a structured and secure testing environment while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance.
Strengthening Aadhaar Security Through Multi-Layered Protection
Security of citizen data remains a top priority for UIDAI. The authority already employs multiple layers of protection, including:
- Regular security audits
- Vulnerability assessments
- Penetration testing
- Continuous monitoring
The Bug Bounty Programme adds another layer by leveraging the expertise of independent ethical hackers to identify hidden risks before they can be exploited.
Global Best Practices for Digital Safety
Bug bounty initiatives are widely used by leading technology platforms worldwide to enhance digital security and make systems future-ready. By launching this programme, UIDAI aligns with global best practices, ensuring that Aadhaar and its associated digital platforms remain secure, reliable, and resilient for residents and stakeholders.
The launch of UIDAI’s Bug Bounty Programme highlights India’s ongoing commitment to robust digital security. By actively engaging independent experts, UIDAI aims to safeguard the personal and financial information of over 1.4 billion Aadhaar holders, reinforcing trust in the nation’s digital identity framework.
