Lucknow: In a year marked by unprecedented outreach and farmer-centric reforms, Uttar Pradesh’s agriculture sector witnessed a historic transformation in 2025. For the first time, agricultural scientists moved out of laboratories to directly reach farmers’ fields, ensuring that research and innovation translated into practical benefits for cultivators.
Under the double-engine government, the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan was launched, reaching 23.30 lakh farmers across 14,170 villages, establishing a direct dialogue between policymakers, scientists, and cultivators. This initiative ensured that modern agricultural techniques, advisory services, and government schemes were accessible at the grassroots level.
Affordable Loans and Sugarcane Price Boost
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a landmark move, making loans from the Land Development Bank (LDB) available at just six percent interest, significantly reducing the financial burden on small and marginal farmers. Earlier, loans were available at 11.50 percent interest, but under this reform, the state government will bear the remaining interest.
Sugarcane farmers were also given a major boost as the government increased the sugarcane price by ₹30 per quintal for the 2025-26 crushing season. Early maturing varieties were priced at ₹400 per quintal and common varieties at ₹390 per quintal, which is expected to result in additional payments of around ₹3,000 crore to farmers. This marks the fourth price hike for sugarcane under the Yogi government, reinforcing the commitment to increasing farm incomes.
Infrastructure for Innovation: Seed Parks and Training Centers
To strengthen agricultural research and seed production, several infrastructure projects were initiated. In Atari, Lucknow, a Seed Park is being developed in memory of Bharat Ratna Chaudhary Charan Singh. This park will focus on advanced seed research and development, aiming to provide high-quality seeds for farmers across the state.
In Barabanki, 31 acres have been earmarked for a state-of-the-art tissue culture laboratory, which will produce disease-free planting material and support modern cultivation practices. Meanwhile, in Pilibhit, seven acres have been allocated for a Basmati production and training center, under the supervision of APEDA, enabling farmers to adopt advanced techniques and benefit from export-oriented agriculture.
Historic Seed Distribution and Direct Income Support
The year also saw a record-breaking seed distribution. A total of 11.31 lakh quintals of subsidized seeds were provided to farmers, surpassing previous records and ensuring affordability and increased productivity.
Furthermore, under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, UP farmers received ₹94,668.58 crore in direct benefits during 2025-26. This financial support strengthened household stability and facilitated investments in farm operations, machinery, and inputs.
Empowering Farmers and Strengthening Rural Economy
The government emphasized that farmers—the annadatas of Uttar Pradesh—remain the highest priority. By integrating research, financial reforms, infrastructure development, and direct support, UP’s agricultural sector has taken a significant leap toward modernization, sustainability, and economic growth.
Through initiatives like the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, innovative seed parks, subsidized inputs, and affordable credit schemes, Uttar Pradesh has set a benchmark in farmer welfare and agricultural advancement. These efforts, guided by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and in alignment with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aim to ensure that farmers not only prosper but also contribute to making Uttar Pradesh a trillion-dollar economy.
The year 2025 has thus been a milestone in bringing scientific innovation, government support, and farmer engagement together, charting a roadmap for long-term agricultural development in the state.
