New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting with senior officials from the National Statistical Commission (NSC) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) to discuss enhancing the state’s statistical framework in line with its ambitious goal of becoming a $1-trillion economy. The meeting was led by NSC Chairman Prof. Rajiva Laxman Karandikar and included MoSPI Secretary Dr. Saurabh Garg.
Focus on Improving Statistical Data Quality and Timeliness
The discussions centered on improving the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of critical economic indicators such as State GDP, Consumer Price Index, employment figures, and industrial statistics. These improvements aim to provide a robust data foundation for evidence-based policymaking and effective governance in Uttar Pradesh.
Commitment to Data-Driven Governance
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the collaboration between MoSPI and NSC and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to data-driven governance. He highlighted key initiatives like the CM Dashboard and the One Trillion Economy Mission, which rely heavily on accurate and timely data.
Technical Support and Capacity Building
NSC Chairman Prof. Karandikar emphasized the significance of strong statistical systems for policymaking and assured continued technical assistance, especially in areas such as Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) estimation and survey design. MoSPI Secretary Dr. Garg outlined ongoing support under the Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS) scheme, which aims to develop modern statistical infrastructure and provide training for Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES) officials in Uttar Pradesh.
Commendation and Future Steps
The NSC acknowledged the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Uttar Pradesh, for its active participation in national surveys and its role in maintaining one of the lowest inflation rates among major Indian states. The meeting also discussed the upcoming revision of the GDP and Index of Industrial Production (IIP) base year to 2022–23.
Both sides expressed strong commitment to building a transparent, technology-enabled, and data-driven statistical ecosystem that will accelerate Uttar Pradesh’s economic growth and promote inclusive development.
