The Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), one of the fastest-emerging industrial zones on the state’s industrial map, is all set to witness the inauguration and foundation laying of development projects worth Rs. 1,551 crore. Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath is expected to unveil these projects soon.
Among the key developments are projects worth Rs. 760 crore coming up near the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, including the proposed foundation of a Skill Training Centre and Common Facility Centre (CFC) of the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) inside the state’s first Plastic Park, located along the expressway.
The Plastic Park initiative, developed under the Ministry of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Government of India, aims to enhance India’s global participation in plastic trade and promote cluster-based industrial growth. Of the ten plastic parks approved across India, Uttar Pradesh’s first Plastic Park is being developed by GIDA on 88 acres of land in Narkataha village, alongside the expressway. The total project cost is Rs. 69.58 crore, with 25% funding from the Central Government.
Out of the plots earmarked for 92 plastic manufacturing units, nearly 60 plots have already been allotted, reflecting strong entrepreneurial interest. Within just two years, GIDA’s Plastic Park has emerged as one of India’s most successful projects in its category. Several units have already started production. Notably, three production units with a total investment of Rs. 120 crore will be inaugurated by CM Yogi. Among them is Technoplast Packaging Pvt Ltd, which has invested Rs. 96 crore and created 250 jobs. Om Flex Industries Pvt Ltd (Rs. 17 crore, 50 jobs) and Gajanan Polyplast (Rs. 7 crore, 25 jobs) will also be inaugurated.
Additionally, land in Sector-27 of GIDA has been allocated to three private firms — APL Apollo Tubes Ltd, Greentech Bharat Pvt Ltd (SLMG Group), and Kapila Krishi Udyog. These ventures are expected to bring in Rs. 640 crore in investments and generate around 1,200 direct and indirect jobs. Their foundation stones will also be laid by the Chief Minister.
CIPET is also planning to establish its Skill Training Centre and CFC at the Plastic Park at a cost of Rs. 16 crore, for which GIDA has allotted 5 acres of land free of cost. This project is also scheduled for foundation laying during the same ceremony. Furthermore, to handle industrial waste, a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) is being set up in Adilapar on 11.15 acres, at a cost of Rs. 93.52 crore, whose foundation stone will also be laid.
The ceremony will also include inauguration and foundation laying of Rs. 281 crore worth of infrastructure projects, including roads, drains, culverts, street lighting, and electrical systems in the GIDA region.
Another key highlight is the formal distribution of allotment letters under the Kalesar Residential Scheme, valued at Rs. 400 crore in Sector-11 of GIDA. Spread across 110 acres, this housing project received 496 applications for 242 advertised plots, which were allotted through an e-lottery system. The project has brought in Rs. 48.27 crore in revenue for GIDA.
These developments are set to reinforce Gorakhpur’s position as a growing industrial hub in eastern Uttar Pradesh and are expected to significantly boost employment and investment in the region.
