Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that it will provide 40,521 subsidised solar pumps to farmers in the state during the 2025-26 fiscal year under the PM Kusum Yojana, according to an official statement. This initiative aims to promote sustainable agriculture and reduce farmers’ dependence on electricity and diesel-powered pumps.

Application Process and Eligibility

Farmers wishing to avail of the benefit must apply through the Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Department’s official website: www.agriculture.up.gov.in by December 15, 2025. Subsidised solar pumps will be allocated through an e-lottery system and will be available only to farmers registered on the portal.

To secure a pump, farmers are required to deposit Rs 5,000 as token money during online booking. Once the booking is confirmed, a notification will be sent to the farmer’s registered mobile number. Following this, the farmer must deposit the remaining amount to complete the process.

Subsidy Details

The Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Department, in coordination with the central government, will provide subsidies for various types of solar pumps. The total subsidy amount, including both central and state contributions, will range from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh, depending on the type of pump selected.

This financial support is expected to help farmers reduce irrigation costs, improve water-use efficiency, and increase crop productivity while promoting renewable energy adoption in agriculture.

Promoting Sustainable and Cost-Effective Farming

By providing subsidised solar pumps, the UP government aims to make irrigation more affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly. The initiative aligns with national efforts to encourage clean energy use in agriculture, reduce carbon emissions, and support farmers in achieving sustainable livelihoods.

Farmers across the state are encouraged to register and apply before the deadline to avail of this subsidy and contribute to a greener, more sustainable agricultural sector.
