Lucknow: In a major administrative shake-up, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has initiated a sweeping reshuffle of the state’s bureaucratic machinery ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections. This unprecedented drive involves the large-scale transfer of IAS, IPS, PCS, and PPS officers across key districts and departments, marking September as one of the most active months for administrative changes under the current government.
Wave of Transfers Hits IAS and IPS Cadres
Since September 1st, a total of 16 IAS and 51 IPS officers have been transferred. The reshuffle includes high-ranking positions such as Divisional Commissioners, ADGs, and DCPs, impacting both administrative and law enforcement operations statewide.

PCS and Education Departments Also Under Scanner
The administrative overhauls weren’t limited to senior bureaucracy and police. On Monday, 13 PCS officers, including SDMs and ADMs, were transferred from major hubs like Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Lucknow.
On September 2, the government shifted two PPS officers:
- Praveen Singh Chauhan: Appointed ASP, Baghpat
- Poonam Mishra: Appointed ADCP, Noida
Furthermore, on September 17, eight Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSAs) and equivalent officers in the education department were transferred, highlighting the government’s broad approach in refreshing key departments.
Administrative Activism Before Polls
Sources suggest that the Yogi Adityanath government is keen to project strong administrative control and eliminate complacency or inefficiency in the run-up to the Panchayat elections. The aggressive transfer orders are reportedly part of a larger strategy to ensure transparency, accountability, and performance-driven governance at every level.
With over 83 senior officers already moved within the first 18 days of the month, the reshuffle drive is expected to continue as the state gears up for grassroots-level elections.
