Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police Department has undergone a significant reshuffle following the appointment of Rajeev Krishna as the new Director General of Police (DGP). In a move underscoring administrative recalibration under the Yogi Adityanath government, three senior IPS officers have also been transferred and entrusted with key responsibilities.
Key IPS Transfers and Appointments
The reshuffle also includes the reallocation of portfolios to three senior officers, reflecting a strategic repositioning of police leadership:
1991 batch IPS officer PC Meena has been given additional charge as Director General of Police / CMD, Police Housing Corporation and Director General, Prison Administration and Correctional Services, UP.
1992 batch IPS officer Ashutosh Pandey, recently promoted to Director General of Police, has been appointed as Director General of Police, Telecom.
1992 batch IPS officer Neera Rawat has been entrusted with dual responsibilities – Director General of Police, EOW (Economic Offenses Wing) and the Additional charge of UP-112, the state’s emergency response and dispatch system.
These high-level appointments signal a focused effort by the state government to consolidate leadership in key security, infrastructure, and technological domains of the police force.
Rajeev Krishna Takes Over as DGP, Uttar Pradesh
On the evening of May 31, Rajeev Krishna, a 1991 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was officially appointed as the new DGP of Uttar Pradesh, succeeding Prashant Kumar. Known for his clean track record and administrative acumen, Krishna previously held the post of DG Vigilance and Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.
He is widely credited for ensuring the fair conduct of the recent police recruitment examination, a major task accomplished without any reported cheating incidents — a key factor in his elevation. Notably, he still has four years until retirement, providing the state with a long-term leadership horizon at the helm of police affairs.
Mr Krishna met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the latter’s official residence on Sunday, June 1, shortly after assuming his new role.
Administrative Strategy and Continuity
The reshuffle comes at a crucial juncture when Uttar Pradesh is ramping up efforts to modernize its policing systems, improve emergency response mechanisms, and ensure transparency in recruitment and law enforcement. The combination of experienced leadership, internal promotions, and trusted officers demonstrates the state’s commitment to strengthening the core of its law and order machinery.
