New Delhi: A surprising controversy has erupted following the release of the final results of the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2025, after two different candidates named Akanksha Singh claimed the same 301st rank in the merit list.
One claimant is from Varanasi / Ghazipur, while the other hails from Ara. Both women have publicly asserted that they secured the 301st rank in the prestigious civil services examination, triggering confusion and intense debate on social media.
The unusual situation has raised questions about how two candidates could claim the same rank with the same roll number, and the controversy now awaits official clarification from the UPSC.
Controversy Emerges After UPSC Results Announcement
The UPSC released the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2025 on February 6, bringing celebration and relief to candidates who made it to the merit list.
However, soon after the results were published, a startling claim surfaced. Two women, both named Akanksha Singh, claimed they had secured the 301st rank in the examination.
The situation became even more puzzling when it emerged that both candidates were reportedly associated with the same roll number, intensifying doubts and sparking widespread discussion online.
Two Candidates from Different States Make the Same Claim
According to available information, one of the claimants is from Ghazipur/Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, while the other candidate is from Ara in Bihar.
Both women insist that they are the rightful candidate who secured the 301st position in the Civil Services Examination.
The Bihar-based candidate has also been identified as the granddaughter of Ranbir Seva Pramukh Brahmeshwar Mukhiya, which has further drawn public attention to the case.
Dr Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur Presents Evidence
One of the claimants, Dr Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, who had been preparing for the examination in Delhi, presented documents to support her claim.
She shared her admit card and other relevant records with media outlets and also released a video explaining her position.
Dr Singh is a gynecologist by profession and holds a master’s degree from All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna.
In the video, she stated:
“My name is Dr Akanksha Singh. I have secured the 301st rank in UPSC 2025. I have learned that another girl is claiming this rank. The truth will be revealed by the barcode on the admit card. I just want to enjoy this moment.”
Her statement further intensified the debate surrounding the authenticity of the claims.
Roll Number 0856794 at the Centre of the Dispute
The controversy revolves around roll number 0856794, which appears on the admit cards associated with both candidates.
When the admit cards of the two claimants were examined, an important discrepancy emerged.
• The admit card of Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur shows roll number 0856794.
• When the barcode on her admit card was scanned, it also revealed the same roll number — 0856794.
However, the situation appeared different in the case of the Bihar-based claimant.
• Her admit card also displayed roll number 0856794 on the surface.
• But when the barcode was scanned, it reportedly showed a different number.
This discrepancy has raised serious questions about the authenticity of the documents and whether there may have been an error or misuse of identity.
Social Media Debate Intensifies
Following the emergence of the controversy, discussions quickly spread across social media platforms.
Many users have circulated documents allegedly shared by the Varanasi-based Akanksha Singh, including her admit card and interview letter. According to her claim, the roll number mentioned in these documents matches the roll number appearing in the UPSC results list.
At the same time, the candidate from Ara, Bihar, has continued to assert that the 301st rank belongs to her.
Bihar Candidate Confident of Her Claim
Akanksha Singh from Ara has maintained that she had already expected her selection in the Civil Services Examination.
She has stated that securing a place in the merit list was always her goal and that she now aims to join the Indian Foreign Service.
Despite the questions raised about the barcode discrepancy, she has continued to assert that the rank rightfully belongs to her.
Awaiting Official Clarification from UPSC
At present, the UPSC has not issued any official statement regarding the controversy.
Given the seriousness of the matter and the confusion surrounding the same rank and roll number, observers expect the Commission to conduct verification and release a clarification soon.
Until then, the identity of the candidate who actually secured the 301st rank in the Civil Services Examination 2025 remains uncertain.
A Rare and Unusual Controversy in Civil Services Results
Such disputes are extremely rare in the highly structured and transparent process of the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
The controversy has therefore attracted widespread attention, not only because of the identical names and rank but also due to the alleged discrepancy in admit card barcodes.
As the debate continues online, all eyes remain on the Union Public Service Commission to provide a definitive clarification that will resolve the issue and establish who the real candidate behind rank 301 is.
