New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the marks of the candidates selected in the prestigious Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024. With the announcement of individual scores, the spotlight is now on the top performers – especially the topper, Shakti Dubey, who secured All India Rank (AIR) 1.

Hailing from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Shakti Dubey has emerged as the UPSC topper with a total score of 1043 marks, comprising 843 marks in the written (Mains) examination and 200 marks in the Personality Test (Interview). The release of marks has confirmed that despite topping the exam, Shakti did not break the all-time highest score in UPSC CSE history, which remains 1126 marks, set by Anudeep Durishetty in 2017.

While Harshita Goyal from Haryana and Dongre Archit Parag both secured 1038 marks, Harshita was placed second based on UPSC’s tie-breaking policy.

Shakti Dubey’s Journey: From Prayagraj to AIR 1

Shakti Dubey completed her schooling in Prayagraj before graduating from Allahabad University. She later pursued a Master’s degree from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Inspired by civil services and driven by her academic rigor, Shakti began preparing for UPSC after completing her post-graduation. After several attempts, she finally achieved her dream, not just clearing the exam but topping it with AIR 1.

UPSC Cutoff Marks 2024 Released

UPSC has also published the category-wise cutoffs for the CSE 2024, across Prelims, Mains, and Final stages. The cutoff for the General category was:

  • Prelims: 87.98 marks
  • Mains: 729 marks
  • Final Cutoff: 947 marks

Among the Top 25 candidates, 11 women and 14 men

Three girls have secured positions in the Top 5 of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, with a total of four girls making it to the Top 10. According to the UPSC, this year’s toppers hold degrees in Engineering, Humanities, Science, Commerce, Medical Science, and Architecture, and have graduated from premier institutions such as IITs, NITs, VIT, JNU, Delhi University, and Allahabad University.

Of these, 1,009 candidates – comprising 725 men and 284 women – have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various civil services, which is less than last years 1016 selected candidates.

45 Candidates Selected from Divyang Category

This year, a total of 45 candidates have been selected under the Divyang (PwBD) category. Among them, 12 candidates fall under PwBD-1 (Visually Impaired), 8 candidates under PwBD-2 (Hearing Impaired), 16 candidates under PwBD-3 (Movement Impairment), and 9 candidates under PwBD-5 (Other Disabilities).

UPSC CSE 2024: Journey

The prestigious UPSC CSE-2024 preliminary exam was held on June 16, 2024, and whose results were declared on July 1, 2024, were eligible to appear for the main exam. The main examination for CSE 2024 was held earlier in September, with candidates taking the exam in two shifts on September 20, 21, 22, 28, and 29, 2024. The first shift ran from 9 AM to 12 noon, and the second from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The exam covered a total of seven papers, starting with Paper I and ending with Paper VI and Paper VII. The result for the main examination was officially announced on December 9, 2024.

The Interview round conducted in three phases, which began on Janaury 07, 2025 were concluded on April 17, 2025. The candidates divided into two sessions daily – one in the morning at 9 AM and the other in the afternoon at 1 PM.

More than 9 Lakhs Candidates Appeared for UPSC 2024 Exam

Out of 9,92,599 applicants this year, a total of 5,83,213 candidates appeared for the exam. Following the preliminary stage, 14,627 candidates qualified for the Main Examination, which was held in September 2024. From these, 2,845 candidates were shortlisted for the Personality Test (Interview) round.

Anudeep’s record has remained unbroken since 2017

While the record set by Anudeep Durishetty in 2017 remains unbeaten, this year’s result once again highlights the immense dedication, perseverance, and excellence displayed by India’s brightest minds.
