Following the impending departure of Home Secretary Nitin Yadav, the Union Territory (UT) Administration has initiated the process of identifying a suitable successor, requesting a panel of names from the Haryana government. Mr Yadav, who has served as UT Home Secretary since September 2021, is set to be relieved of his duties next week, despite his term officially ending in August 2024.
Yadav’s transfer comes after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, on May 30. As the administration moves swiftly to find a replacement, the selection process is still in its early stages.
In the interim, there’s speculation that the additional charge of UT Home Secretary may be entrusted to the Adviser to the UT Administrator. This move would ensure continuity in governance until a permanent successor is appointed.
The transition underscores the intricate administrative dynamics within the UT, emphasizing the need for seamless handovers and effective leadership to maintain stability and momentum in governance. As deliberations continue, the UT Administration remains focused on fulfilling its obligations and ensuring smooth operations in the region.
