Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is set to boost employment opportunities for the youth through the fisheries sector. Around 30 companies are planning to invest a total of ₹1,407 crore across districts including Varanasi, Barabanki, and Amethi, which is expected to generate jobs for over 2,000 young people. The Fisheries Department has already started preparations to implement these investment proposals on the ground.
Major Investments Announced at Fish Festival and Investment Summit
During the recent Meen Mahotsav (27–28 February), the department received investment proposals worth ₹1,200 crore. Earlier, at the Fisheries Investment Summit in December, proposals worth ₹207 crore were also received.
Key investments include:
- Auro Sundaram Foods & Feeds Pvt Ltd: ₹300 crore in Varanasi
- Probus Smart Thinks Pvt Ltd, Godrej Agrovet Ltd, Nexgen Companies: ₹200 crore each
- Deepak Nexgen Feeds Pvt Ltd: ₹100 crore in Barabanki
In total, 30 companies have committed proposals amounting to ₹1,407 crore, signaling a significant push in UP’s fisheries sector.

Nexgen to Set Up Fish Processing and Feed Plants
Andhra Pradesh-based Nexgen Feeds Pvt Ltd plans to establish a fish processing plant in Uttar Pradesh with an investment of ₹200 crore. The project will create employment for 150+ youth and is expected to be operational by 2028.
Additionally, Nexgen will set up a fish feed plant in Barabanki with an investment of ₹100 crore, creating jobs for 300 young people. The plant is scheduled to be completed by 2027.
Fisheries Sector Poised for Growth under Vision 2047
According to Dhanalakshmi K., Director General of Fisheries, the department’s investment initiatives aim to provide massive employment opportunities for young professionals. She noted that the Meen Mahotsav brought together 1,200 crore worth of investment proposals from entrepreneurs for the first time in UP.
The department is working rapidly to implement these proposals in line with CM Yogi Adityanath’s Vision 2047, promoting fisheries development across the state.
Collaborative Efforts to Strengthen Fisheries Ecosystem
For the first time, 5,000 fisheries farmers, entrepreneurs, and scientists were brought together at a single platform under CM Yogi’s leadership. During the December 17–18, 2025 Investment Summit, an additional ₹207 crore in proposals were received. Once implemented, these investments will create jobs for over 2,000 youths and enhance UP’s position as a leading hub for fisheries development in India.

With strategic investments and infrastructure development, the Uttar Pradesh government is aiming to strengthen the fisheries ecosystem while providing meaningful employment to young people.
