Lucknow: In line with the Central Government’s directive, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a 2% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees, raising the rate from 53% to 55% of the basic salary. The revised DA is effective from January 1, 2025.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared the announcement via social media, underscoring the administration’s continued commitment to the welfare of government employees. “Safeguarding the interests of our employees is our utmost priority,” he said, according to an official statement.
The DA hike will benefit approximately 16 lakh employees across the state. This includes regular and full-time staff in aided educational and technical institutions, urban local bodies, ad-hoc employees, and those receiving salaries under the University Grants Commission (UGC) pay scale.
Employees will receive the revised DA with their April 2025 salary, which is due for disbursement in May. The move will place an additional monthly financial burden of Rs 107 crore on the state exchequer. For the arrears due from January to March 2025, the government will incur a one-time expenditure of Rs 193 crore.
Furthermore, Rs 129 crore will be credited to the General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts of employees under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
The total fiscal impact for the current financial year is projected at Rs 107 crore per month due to the DA hike.
