Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Mati Kala Board has achieved record-breaking sales of over ₹4.20 crore during the financial year 2025-26 through state, regional, and district-level fairs. This marks a significant increase of ₹91 lakh compared to the previous year, reflecting a 27.7% growth despite fewer stalls being set up.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision to uplift traditional artisans and promote indigenous crafts has been a key driver of this success. Focused efforts on marketing, branding, and training are enabling the state’s pottery products to reach both national and international markets.
Highlights of State and Regional Fairs
- The 10-day Mati Kala Mahotsav at Khadi Bhavan, Lucknow (October 10–19, 2025), recorded sales of ₹1.22 crore from 56 stalls.

Compared to FY 2024-25, where 878 stalls generated ₹3.29 crore, this year’s results highlight improved product quality, fair management, and stronger market linkages.
Government Initiatives Driving Artisan Success
The Uttar Pradesh Mati Kala Board continues to empower artisans through advanced training, design development, exhibition management, and branding initiatives, ensuring long-term economic sustainability.
To protect and promote traditional crafts, the government has introduced several landmark measures:
- Free access to clay from village ponds for Prajapati community members, reducing production costs.
 - Strengthening economic security for artisans.
 - Expanding employment opportunities through innovation and modern market strategies.

Direct Link Between Artisans and Consumers
According to the CEO of Khadi and Village Industries and GM of the Mati Kala Board, “Buyers enthusiastically embraced local crafts during the fairs, leading to higher incomes for artisans and greater recognition for Mati Kala products.”
The Board plans to expand these fairs to more districts in the coming years, ensuring Uttar Pradesh’s pottery products gain a stronger foothold in national and international markets.
Reviving Cultural Heritage Through Craft
With the continued support of the Yogi Government and the Mati Kala Board, traditional pottery is witnessing a revival. These fairs not only generate income for artisans but also preserve Uttar Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, connecting communities with the essence of indigenous art and craftsmanship.
