In a transformative move to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s textile sector, Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath has announced the establishment of Sant Kabir Textile and Apparel Parks across the state. The initiative aims to generate employment, attract large-scale investments, and position the state as a global textile hub by 2030.
The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting where Mr. Adityanath highlighted the sector’s potential, citing Uttar Pradesh’s long-standing tradition in handloom and textile manufacturing.
Balancing Tradition with Modern Infrastructure
Named after the revered saint Sant Kabir, known for his principles of labour, simplicity, and self-reliance, the textile park scheme is designed to promote both heritage and innovation. “This initiative will strike a balance between tradition and modernity while generating investment, boosting production, and creating new jobs,” Mr. Adityanath said.
The scheme will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model or via a designated nodal agency. The government will ensure all necessary infrastructure—roads, electricity, water supply—is provided on a priority basis.
Strategic Investment and Employment Opportunities
According to official data, Uttar Pradesh currently contributes 9.6% of India’s total textile exports, exporting goods worth USD 3.5 billion in 2023–24. The textile sector also contributes 1.5% to the state’s GDP, employing approximately 22 lakh people directly.
So far, 659 investment proposals have been received via the Investment Sarathi portal, requiring 1,642 acres of land. These proposals are expected to bring in Rs. 15,431 crore in investments and generate over 1,01,768 jobs.
Each park will cover a minimum of 50 acres and will include essential infrastructure such as common effluent treatment plants and support facilities for ancillary industries like buttons, zippers, packaging, and warehousing.
Focus on Traditional Weavers and Sustainable Energy
Mr. Adityanath also directed officials to engage directly with powerloom weavers, aiming to reduce production costs and improve their earnings. He emphasized the importance of subsidized electricity and urged officials to explore solar energy solutions for sustainable and affordable power supply.
“Weavers are the symbol of hard work and tradition. Their handwoven fabrics are globally acclaimed. It is our duty to support and uplift them,” the Chief Minister stated.
Revitalizing Traditional Textile Clusters
The initiative is expected to directly benefit traditional textile clusters in Varanasi, Mau, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Sitapur, Barabanki, Gorakhpur, and Meerut, revitalizing local economies and preserving indigenous craftsmanship.
Mr. Adityanath called for expedited land acquisition and development to ensure timely implementation of the project. With dedicated infrastructure and policy support, the Sant Kabir Textile and Apparel Park Scheme is expected to usher in a new era of industrial and social development in Uttar Pradesh.
