In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Uttar Pradesh will witness a massive cultural and spiritual celebration of Valmiki Jayanti on October 7, following direct instructions from Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath. Events will span all 75 districts, development blocks, and tehsils, uniting citizens in devotion, art, and heritage.
Ramayan Recitals, Bhajans, Cultural Events to Light Up the State
As per the plan, each district will organize Ramayana recitations, bhajans, kirtans, cultural performances, and ceremonial lamp lighting. With support from the Culture Department, these activities will be held at temples and sacred sites associated with Maharishi Valmiki, highlighting his life, teachings, and contributions to Indian culture.
Lalapur (Chitrakoot) to Host Grand State-Level Event
The centerpiece of the celebration will be held at Lalapur (Chitrakoot), the historic site of Maharishi Valmiki’s penance. The Culture Department has designated it as the main state-level venue. Deputy Director (Tourism) Mr. R.K. Rawat will serve as nodal officer, overseeing events including Ramayana recitations by Sanskrit students, devotional music by Mr. Dayaram Raikwad and team, and spiritual discourses.
Administrative Coordination and Cleanliness Mandate
Each district has established a committee led by the District Magistrate to ensure smooth execution. Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath has stressed strict cleanliness, drinking water supply, lighting, sound arrangements, and security. These directives aim to ensure a seamless and respectful experience for all participants.
Celebrations in Ayodhya, Bithoor, Varanasi, and Beyond
Major spiritual cities like Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Bithoor, and Varanasi will see grand commemorations, including two-day events and academic discussions. Valmiki Ashrams in Ayodhya and Bithoor will host special pujas, while university departments will hold seminars on Valmiki’s cultural impact.
Focus on Youth Engagement and Cultural Education
The initiative is designed not only as a tribute to Maharishi Valmiki but also as a means to connect the youth with India’s rich spiritual traditions. Universities and schools will play a vital role through debates, cultural shows, and Ramayan-based discussions.
Empowering Local Artists and Rural Talent
A special feature of the event is the platform provided to local artists, bhajan mandalis, and folk performers. The Culture Department and district administrations have already identified and engaged artists to showcase their talent across the state, helping bridge urban-rural gaps in cultural representation.
Strong Bureaucratic Oversight and District-Level Monitoring
The Culture Department has appointed nodal officers in every district to coordinate with District Magistrates and Chief Development Officers. Senior ministers and MPs/MLAs will attend events in major venues to encourage broader participation and ensure effective coordination.
CM Emphasizes Spiritual Unity and Public Welfare
Mr. Yogi Adityanath emphasized that Maharishi Valmiki’s birth anniversary is being celebrated not as a formality, but as a festival of social harmony, equality, and public interest. He has encouraged full public participation and made it clear that the events must reflect spiritual inclusivity and cultural pride.
Digital Promotion and Mass Participation Expected
The Information and Public Relations Department will amplify the event’s reach through wide publicity and digital campaigns. The government expects mass participation across all communities, setting a new benchmark in public-oriented cultural governance.
