He also directly reached out to public representatives of Chamoli via telephone to gather detailed updates and urged them to support ongoing relief and rescue operations.
Public Representatives Urged to Stay on Ground
The Chief Minister instructed the local MLA to remain physically present at the site to oversee operations and assist the administration. Mr. Dhami emphasized that ground-level leadership is critical during such natural disasters to ensure timely assistance to affected citizens.
Swift Deployment of Disaster Response Teams
Following the cloudburst, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district police, and the local administration quickly mobilized for rescue operations. The Indian Army, in a show of timely support, deployed around 50 personnel from Rudraprayag on Saturday to assist in the ongoing relief efforts.
The Indian Meteorological Department had earlier issued an orange alert, warning of heavy rain and lightning across several regions of the state. This forecast further underscores the importance of coordinated disaster preparedness.
Rescue and Surveillance Efforts Underway
Preliminary assessments indicate damage to multiple houses and vehicles, and the unfortunate report of one missing girl from the affected area. A medical team from Joshimath has been dispatched, and Search and Rescue (SAR) dogs along with surveillance drones are en route to aid in locating survivors and assessing the damage.
Mr. Dhami wrote on X:
“Late last night, a tragic report of a cloudburst was received in the Tharali area of Chamoli district. The district administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. In this regard, I am in constant contact with the local administration and am personally closely monitoring the situation. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”
Coordinated Relief as a Sign of Governance Readiness

The Chief Minister’s hands-on leadership demonstrates commitment to public safety and institutional readiness in handling emergencies, especially during monsoon seasons.
