Almora, Uttarakhand: Devlikhan village in Almora district is set to be developed as a Mushroom Village under a district-level scheme, aiming to boost farmer income and promote sustainable livelihoods. The project has been sanctioned ₹22.5 lakh for establishing 10 mushroom production units in the village.
Ten Mushroom Units to Boost Farmer Income
Each of the 10 units will produce approximately 3,750 kg of mushrooms per year, enabling farmers to earn around ₹5.62 lakh per unit annually. Collectively, the 10 units are expected to produce 37,000 kg of mushrooms per year, generating an estimated ₹56 lakh in annual income for the participating farmers.
Farmers will receive 90% subsidy for setting up the mushroom units, along with training and mushroom compost support from the Horticulture Department.
Mushroom Compost Distribution to Enhance Production
As part of the initiative, the department is also distributing mushroom compost at a 50% subsidy. So far, 72 farmers in the district have received the compost, with 50% financial assistance from the government. The scheme has already shown promising results, helping farmers increase mushroom production and profitability.
Promoting Livelihoods and Nutritional Security
This initiative is part of the department’s efforts to provide nutrition security and self-employment opportunities to rural communities. By developing Devlikhan as a Mushroom Village, the department aims to make mushroom farming a sustainable source of income for local farmers and strengthen the agribusiness ecosystem in Almora district.
