The Uttarakhand government has clarified its limited role in the empanelment of IPS officers at the Centre, emphasizing that the process is entirely under the jurisdiction of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). According to the state government, its involvement is restricted to providing the vigilance status and profiles of the concerned officers.
Addressing concerns regarding the empanelment of 2006-batch IPS officers Sweety Agarwal, Arun Mohan Joshi, Anant Shankar Takwale, and Rajiv Swaroop at the Inspector General (IG) level in 2023, the state government stated it merely complied with the MHA’s request to supply the required vigilance details and profiles.
The government also disclosed that, in response to the Government of India’s letters issued in October 2024, vigilance status and profile forms for five officers from the 2004-05 batch, four officers from the 2007 batch, and two officers from the 1997 batch were submitted to the Centre on November 27, 2024.
These clarifications were shared through an official press briefing by the Uttarakhand government, aiming to underline that the empanelment process is centrally governed and does not involve decision-making at the state level.
