Dehradun: In a major push to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the completion of over 102 mini stadiums and 157 playgrounds across the state. The initiative aims to nurture young talent and promote a vibrant sports culture, especially in rural areas.
Major Sports Infrastructure Expansion
According to CM Dhami, the state government has also constructed 7 multipurpose halls to provide better training and sporting facilities. Highlighting the vision behind the move, he stated that this development is not just about infrastructure but about empowering youth and helping them achieve their dreams.
He shared on X that these facilities are playing a crucial role in encouraging village-level participation in sports, with athletes from Uttarakhand increasingly making their mark at national and international levels.
Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Earlier, CM Dhami met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, expressing gratitude for the Centre’s continued support in the state’s development.
During the meeting, Dhami thanked the Prime Minister for several key approvals and financial assistance, including:
- ₹500 crore for Haridwar Kumbh 2027
- River-linking feasibility study by the National Water Development Agency
- ₹100 crore for developing Chauraasi Kutiya
- MoU for Naini-Saini Airstrip
- Safe helicopter services for Char Dham Yatra
Additionally, major infrastructure projects such as the Dehradun Ring Road, Rishikesh underground electric lines, Champawat bypass, and Dehradun-Mussoorie Road were also discussed.
Uttarakhand as an Emerging Wedding Destination
The state is also focusing on tourism diversification by developing Uttarakhand into a global wedding destination. Scenic locations like Chopta, Duggalbitta, and Patwadangar are being developed, while cities such as Ramnagar, Dehradun, and Rishikesh are already popular choices.
A dedicated wedding destination policy is also in progress to support this initiative.
Focus on Rural Development and Agriculture
The government has also made strides in rural and agricultural development:
- Over 6,000 homestays registered under the state scheme
- Launch of “Uttarastays” – a free marketing portal
- Establishment of fruit Centres of Excellence in Chaubatia for apple, cherry, plum, and pear cultivation
- Training programs for farmers
Under the Vibrant Village Programme, border villages are being developed by promoting local culture, cuisine, and handicrafts.

CM Dhami emphasized that with consistent support from the central government, Uttarakhand is achieving new milestones in infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, and youth development.
The state’s multi-sector initiatives reflect a broader vision of sustainable growth while preserving its cultural and natural heritage.
