Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Friday that the state will implement the revised Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates from September 22, following significant reductions made by the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to an official release, the new GST rates will provide much-needed relief to consumers across Uttarakhand and are expected to accelerate economic growth in the state. The Finance Department has issued notifications detailing the revised GST rates applicable to major consumer goods and services effective from September 22.

GST Rate Cuts to Benefit Consumers During Festive Season

The Chief Minister highlighted that the GST reductions come at a critical time, offering substantial relief to consumers during the festive season. Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar confirmed that the revisions are in line with decisions taken at the 56th meeting of the GST Council and the Central Government’s subsequent notifications. Following these, the Uttarakhand Government also issued related notifications on September 18, 2025, specifying the new tax rates.

Economic Impact and Benefits

The release stated that the reduction in GST rates will result in lower prices on a wide range of goods and services, thereby enhancing the purchasing power of consumers. This increased spending capacity is expected to boost demand, encourage trade, and stimulate business activities throughout the state.

Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that the simplification and reduction of GST rates will directly benefit the common people, especially those belonging to the lower and middle-income groups. The reforms are also expected to provide significant advantages to farmers and traders, supporting inclusive economic development.

Government’s Commitment to Inclusive Growth

The Uttarakhand government views these reforms as a positive step toward making the tax system more efficient and consumer-friendly. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of these tax reforms reach all sections of society and contribute to long-term economic growth.
