New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have issued key notifications regarding senior Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Information Service (IIS) officers, reflecting strategic appointments in law enforcement and media administration.
Vinay Kumar Appointed Inspector General, NIA
Senior IPS officer Vinay Kumar (IPS: 2004: Bihar cadre) has been appointed Inspector General (IG) in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on central deputation.
An official order issued by the MHA on January 2, 2026, states that the appointment has been approved against an existing vacancy under the usual terms and conditions of central deputation.
Currently, Vinay Kumar serves in his parent cadre of Bihar as IG of the Special Task Force (STF). Notably, in May 2025, he was empanelled for holding IG-level posts in the Government of India, making him eligible for central deputation assignments.
Mamta Verma Appointed ADG, DD News with Addl DG Charge
Senior IIS officer Mamta Verma (IIS: 1994) has been appointed Additional Director General (ADG), DD News, following her repatriation to the parent cadre from the Ministry of Panchayat Raj on December 31, 2025.
In addition to her role as ADG, Mamta Verma will hold the additional charge of Director General, News, DD, according to official orders.
This appointment comes after Pankaj Pandey, ADG, DD News, was given additional charge of Director General, DD News, on December 31, 2025, creating a seamless leadership transition at Doordarshan News.
Significance of the Appointments
Vinay Kumar’s posting in NIA strengthens central leadership in India’s primary counter-terrorism and investigation agency. His prior experience with Bihar STF and IG-level empanelment reflects his capability for sensitive, high-responsibility roles.
Mamta Verma’s dual charge at DD News ensures continuity in leadership at the national broadcasting service, combining strategic oversight of news content with administrative responsibilities.
Both appointments underscore the government’s efforts to maintain competent leadership in security and media sectors through central deputation and cadre repatriation mechanisms.
