Two senior IAS officers from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Anupam Rajan and Nishant Varwade, have been issued bailable warrants by the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission. The commission has ordered the officers to appear in court on January 22, 2025. The warrants, valued at Rs. 5,000 each, were issued after the officers failed to respond to repeated reminders regarding a complaint.
Anupam Rajan, an officer of the 1993 batch, serves as the Additional Chief Secretary in the Higher Education Department. Originally from Bihar, Rajan holds a Master’s degree in Sociology. Nishant Varwade, a 2003 batch officer from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, is currently serving as a commissioner. He has completed an M.Tech. degree.
The issue arose after a professor from Motilal Vigyan College in Bhopal, Kailash Tyagi, filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission regarding the withholding of his Leave Travel Concession (LTC) amount. Tyagi demanded action against the college principal and requested that his withheld LTC amount be returned with interest. In response, the Commission sought a report from Rajan and Varwade, but despite repeated reminders, the officers failed to provide any response.
As a result, the Commission decided to issue bailable warrants against both officers. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for January 22, 2025.
