New Delhi: The Coal India Inter-Company Powerlifting, Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Championship 2025-26 concluded on a high note at the Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) Headquarters, Nagpur. Held from October 14 to 16, the championship saw enthusiastic participation from all subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited, showcasing remarkable strength, dedication, and sportsmanship.
In a closely contested tournament, Team WCL emerged as the overall champion, while Team SECL clinched the runner-up position, adding another proud moment to their sporting journey.
Star Performers Shine on the National Stage
Several athletes delivered outstanding performances and were recognized for their exceptional achievements. Mr. Srinivas Reddy from SCCL was declared “Mr. Coal India”, while Mohitram Andhavan of WCL won the title of “Strong Man of Coal India.”
Ms. Hiramani Mandal from WCL was honored as the “Strong Woman of Coal India,” reflecting the growing participation and excellence of women in strength sports. Rabindra Behera from MCL earned the “Best Lifter of Coal India” award for his stellar performance.
In addition, Vijay Munishwar, senior officer at WCL and a recipient of the Arjuna and Dronacharya Awards, was specially felicitated for his contribution to Indian sports.

Dignitaries Grace Prize Distribution Ceremony
The grand Prize Distribution Ceremony on the final day was graced by Mr. J. P. Dwivedi, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WCL, as the Chief Guest. Also present were Mr. Bikram Ghosh, Director (Finance); Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, Director (Human Resources); and Mr. Ajay Madhukar Mhetre, Chief Vigilance Officer, WCL, as Guests of Honor.
Addressing the gathering, CMD Mr. J. P. Dwivedi emphasized the role of sports such as powerlifting and weightlifting in enhancing both physical and mental strength. He highlighted how such tournaments foster awareness and nurture talent, motivating employees to pursue fitness and excellence. He congratulated the winners for their achievements and encouraged all participants to keep striving for higher goals.
Celebrating Sportsmanship and Team Spirit
Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, Director (HR), extended warm congratulations to the winners and praised the efforts of all participants. Mr. C. J. Joseph, a member of the WCL steering committee, also shared best wishes for future competitions.
Members of the WCL Steering Committee, including Mr. C. J. Joseph and Mr. S. R. Gabale, along with the WCL Welfare Committee, were present at the event. A large number of WCL employees gathered to witness the competitions, creating a vibrant and motivating atmosphere.
