Kolkata: The Government of West Bengal has carried out a significant administrative reshuffle, transferring 12 officers of the Indian Administrative Service across key departments and districts. Among the major changes, Anshul Gupta has been given the additional charge of Municipal Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The move is being viewed as an important bureaucratic adjustment ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections.
Anshul Gupta Gets Key Role in Kolkata
According to the official order issued in Kolkata, Anshul Gupta, who is currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, will now also hold the additional charge of Municipal Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
He has also been appointed as the District Election Officer for Kolkata (North), adding another important responsibility to his portfolio.
Gupta previously served as an Officer on Special Duty in the state government and is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi.

Changes in Key Municipal and Administrative Posts
As part of the reshuffle, Sumit Gupta, who was serving as Municipal Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, has been assigned additional responsibilities as District Election Officer, Kolkata (South) and given the charge of the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys, West Bengal.
New District Magistrates Appointed
Several districts in the state have also received new District Magistrates.
• Nikhil Sharma, Managing Director of the West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation Limited, has been appointed District Magistrate of Nadia.
• Shewale Abhijit Tukaram, Special Secretary in the Animal Resources Development Department, has been appointed District Magistrate of Alipurduar.
• Siyad N, previously District Magistrate of Bankura, has been transferred as District Magistrate of North 24 Parganas.
• Anish Das Gupta, who earlier served as DM of Nadia, has been appointed District Magistrate of Bankura.
Other Administrative Transfers
Additional changes include the following postings:
• Surendra Kumar Meena, District Magistrate of North Dinajpur, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.
• Shantanu Bala, previously Additional District Magistrate of Cooch Behar, has been transferred as ADM of Murshidabad.
• Srinivas Venkat Rao Patil, earlier ADM of West Medinipur, has been posted as ADM of Bankura.
• Vivek Pankaj, Sub-Divisional Officer of Raghunathpur in Purulia, has been appointed Joint Secretary in the state’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Department.
• Surabhi Singla, SDO of Kharagpur, has been transferred as SDO of Raghunathpur in Purulia.
• Shubham Maurya, SDO of Khatra in Bankura, has been transferred as SDO of Bongaon in North 24 Parganas.
Aim of the Administrative Reshuffle
Officials said the reshuffle is intended to strengthen governance and streamline administrative functioning across the state. Such periodic transfers are common in government service to ensure efficient management of departments and districts.
